01

PLANNING

Where is Socotra?

An island off the Horn of Africa, between the Arabian Peninsula and the Indian Ocean. Socotra is part of Yemen.

When can I go?

October to April. Exact dates depend on flights and local conditions; summer monsoon winds limit travel.

How do I get there?

Flights are limited and can change. Confirm your route and dates with us before booking onward connections, and allow time for delays.

Are flights included?

No. Signature flights are quoted separately. We’ll confirm the latest fare and baggage allowance before booking.

Do you help with the visa?

Yes. Our local partners assist once your dates are agreed. You’ll need a passport scan, photo and personal details; requirements vary by nationality.

Is the visa fee included?

Yes, in the Signature expedition. Flights and tips are separate; optional extras are confirmed in your quote.

02

SAFETY & INSURANCE

What about safety?

Socotra is part of Yemen. UK and Australian advice is not to travel, including to Socotra. Read your government’s advice and consider limited medical support and possible flight disruption.

Do I need insurance?

Yes. Get written confirmation of cover for Yemen and Socotra, your activities, medical care, evacuation and trip disruption. Standard worldwide policies may exclude this trip.

What if my flight is cancelled?

We’ll coordinate with the airline, but can’t control when flights resume. Extra costs depend on airline rules, your booking terms and insurance.

03

CAMP LIFE

Where will we stay?

Six nights camping and one in a basic hotel. Tents and bedding are provided; showers, toilets, power and connectivity vary by location.

Can I shower every day?

Basic showers are available at some camps. Water is limited, so daily hot showers aren’t guaranteed.

Will I have internet?

Limited access may be available at selected camps, including Starlink where conditions allow. Don’t expect to stay connected throughout.

Can I charge my devices?

Basic charging is available in vehicles or at camp, with limited outlets and hours. Bring a power bank and spare camera batteries.

04

ACTIVITIES & PERSONAL NEEDS

How fit do I need to be?

Expect moderate walking, uneven rock, soft sand and some climbs. Tell us about your fitness and any limitations before choosing a route.

Can I skip an activity?

Usually. Let your guide know early; a suitable alternative or waiting place depends on the location and transport.

Do you cater for vegetarians?

Yes, with advance notice and available ingredients. Please discuss vegan diets or other restrictions before booking.

What about food allergies?

Tell us before booking. Camp kitchens cannot guarantee allergen-free preparation; discuss your travel needs with your clinician.

Can children or older travellers join?

It depends on health, outdoor experience and the route. Tell us who’s travelling so we can discuss suitability.

05

PRACTICALITIES

Can I bring a drone?

Only after confirming current permissions with us. Send your equipment details before travelling.

Should I bring cash?

Yes. Don’t rely on cards or ATMs. Confirm the currency and amount with us, and bring a reserve for unexpected costs.

Can I come alone?

Yes. Signature accepts solo bookings with a 60% supplement. Tent and hotel arrangements are confirmed when booking.

Could the route change?

Yes. Weather, sea conditions, flights and local guidance may change activities, camps or their order.

Travel information reviewed 10 September 2026. Dates, facilities and entry arrangements are confirmed for each departure. Government advice can change.
